Abstract
Gastroschisis is a congenital anomaly developed rarely in the newborn, in which there is the protrusion of intradominal organs without any covering sac or its remnant through the defect of the full thickness of abdominal wall.
It is surgical emergency, in treatment as ruptured omphalocele.
Although the viability of the newborn with it has been increased by improved management including operative procedure, its mortality rate is still as high as 50-75% due to sepsis, star-vation, combined other congenital anomalies and potoperative respiratory or circulatory distur-bances.
One case of gastroschisis, which developed in the premature baby born in our hospital, in which stomach, almost entire tract of small intestine and its mesentery and a part of colon were protruded externally through a large defect, and which was treated as a surgical emerge-ncy especially with Gross¢¥s primary skin closure and relatively prolonged parenteral alimenta-tion and so good result, is reported with a brief of literature.
